THE WINNER: Bo Coleman


School: Valley (Albuquerque, N.M.)
Grade: Senior
Position: QB
Height: 6-foot
Weight: 170 pounds

Athletic achievement: He threw for 2,734 yards and 39 touchdowns on 134-of-237 passing with just eight interceptions this past season, leading the Vikings (11-1) to the Class 5A state semifinals. Coleman also rushed for 1,003 yards and 11 scores on 106 carries, leading Valley to only its second perfect regular season in 59 years.

Academic excellence: Coleman has maintained a weighted 3.35 GPA.

Exemplary character: He has volunteered locally at a homeless shelter and food bank, as a youth coach and as part of multiple community service initiatives in association with his church youth group.


“Bo has had a great season,” said Ron McMath, head coach of West Mesa (Albuquerque, N.M.). “He is a dual-threat quarterback who is a threat to score every play. He makes fantastic decisions with the ball every time.”

THE FUTURE: Coleman remains undecided upon a collegiate destination.
