THE WINNER: Curtis Samuel


School: Erasmus Hall (Brooklyn, N.Y.)
Grade: Senior
Position: RB
Height: 6-foot
Weight: 185 pounds

Athletic achievement: He rushed for 1,461 yards and 17 touchdowns on 92 carries, an average of 15.9 yards per attempt, leading the Dutchmen to the Public Schools Athletic League semifinals this past season. Samuel also caught eight passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns, and scored two special teams TDs. A First Team All-State selection and the Daily News New York City Player of the Year as a junior, he has been chosen to play in the 2014 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.    

Academic excellence: Samuel has maintained a B average.

Exemplary character: He has volunteered locally on behalf of a youth football program.


“Samuel is a big-time player, a game-changer,” said Pete Gambardella, head coach at Curtis (New York, N.Y.). “He’s just so fast, he can take a ball from any position and make a play out of nothing.”

THE FUTURE: Samuel has verbally committed to Ohio State.
