1. West Florida…3-0

Skinny: The West Florida Jaguars got back to work and didn’t miss a beat with a convincing 59-20 win over the Mosley Dolphins. The game was never close, as West Florida led 45-13 at the half and played with a running clock most of the second half.

Next: at Alma Bryant (Ala.), Friday.

2. Catholic …4-0

Skinny: The Crusaders weren’t necessarily a well-oiled machine, but still managed to completely manhandle the Bay Tornadoes by a 54-13 margin Thursday. Catholic now gets four in a row at Gorecki-Lebeau Stadium.

Next: vs Rutherford, Thursday.

3. Escambia …4-0

Skinny: The Gators took advantage of five Pine Forest turnovers in winning the District 1-6A opener 24-7.

Next: Open.

4. Navarre …2-2

Skinny: The Raiders pull back to .500 on the season by holding off a late Crestview rally to improve to 2-2 on the year. Navarre seemingly is starting to hit a stride at the right time.

Next: at Milton, Friday.

5. Tate …3-1

Skinny: Tate was never really threatened Friday night as they coasted to an easy win over West Gadsden. Schedule gets a little tougher, though as they have Pine Forest, then Class 7A No. 9 Niceville.

Next: vs. Pine Forest, Friday.

6. Pensacola High…1-3

Skinny: PHS found its offense in the fourth quarter and ended up cruising by the Milton Panthers. We had a feeling this team eventually would catch fire, and that premonition may be coming true.

Next: at Jesuit (La.), Friday.

7. Pace…1-3

Skinny: Facing an 0-4 start to the season, the Pace Patriots went back to basics and rode the legs of Quaide Weimerskirch and Jon Martin to an easy win over Washington. The Patriots still are in the thick of a 1-6A hunt.

Next: at Madison County, Friday.

8. Pine Forest…0-4

Skinny: Pine Forest’s defense had the best effort of any team thus far against Escambia’s triple option, but the offense shot itself in the foot with five turnovers and nine offensive penalties.

Next: at Tate, Friday.

9. Milton…0-4

Skinny: The Panthers rallied for a third-quarter lead against PHS on Friday, but couldn’t stop the big plays in the fourth quarter as the Tigers came back to roll past Milton.

Next: vs. Navarre, Friday.

10. Gulf Breeze…1-2

Skinny: Gulf Breeze enjoyed the week off before a brutal stretch that begins Friday with the District 1-5A opener. The Dolphins will play all three Panama City area teams at home before closing with West Florida and Catholic.

Next: vs. Bay, Friday.

11. Washington…2-2

Skinny: Washington never got into a rhythm offensively and couldn’t stop the power running game of Pace on defense in a tough blowout loss to the Patriots.

Next: Open.

12. Northview…1-2

Skinny: Chiefs had a chance to rest up after a frustrating loss to the Chipley Tigers. Bad news is that Northview comes back this week to take on a Class 6A Choctaw team coming off a blowout loss to Niceville.

Next: vs. Choctaw, Friday.

13. Jay…3-0

Skinny: Like Northview, the Royals had the week off last week and will jump right back into the fire this week as they travel across the border to take on a tough Flomaton team in a rivalry game.

Next: at Flomaton (Ala.), Friday.
