Grade: Senior
Position: Forward/midfielder
Height: 5-foot-8

Athletic achievement:The state’s returning Gatorade Player of the Year, she has led the Falcons to a 26-0 record and a berth in the Class 4A East Regional final against New Bern (N.C.), scheduled for May 21. Shaffer scored 37 goals and passed for 24 assists through 26 games, recording multiple points 16 times. A two-time Youth All-American selection and a 2012 High School All-American honoree by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, Shaffer led her club team, the Capital Area Soccer League Chelsea Ladies 94, to back-to-back Elite Club National League national championships.

Academic excellence: Shaffer has maintained a 3.95 GPA.

Exemplary character: She has volunteered locally as part of a fundraising campaign to benefit cancer research, as a youth soccer coach and on behalf of the Special Olympics.


“Alexis is an incredible athlete who is extremely creative and crafty,” said Bobby Peterson, head coach of Green Hope (Cary, N.C.). “She is so quick with the ball that it gives her the ability to change the game.”

THE FUTURE: Shaffer has signed with Virginia.
