North pins down Neenah

By

The Oshkosh North wrestling team finally got the Neenah monkey off its back. And left no doubt.

Dominating the lower weights, the Spartans earned a 44-24 road win over the Rockets Tuesday night, improving to 7-0 in duals and slaying an opponent that had their number for quite some time.

“I’m not sure what the exact number is, but I know we hadn’t beat Neenah in at least 12 years. So it’s nice to break that streak,” North coach Mike Meunier said.

After starting off the dual with a loss at 285, the Spartans won six of the next seven matches, including two by forfeit. Brandon Green earned a 23-8 tech fall 30 seconds in into the third period at 120, while Alex Schwartz (132) Daniel Buhrow (138) and Travis Buhrow (145) each earned pins.

Clayton Grunewald (160), Quintin Miller (170) and Matt Veneskey (220) each won by decision.

“We wrestled really well,” Meunier said. “We’re looking forward to finishing out the regular season and seeing how we finish up with the conference.”
