After coaching the middle school team to a 32-0 record this past winter, Reggie St. Rose will be the new varsity boys basketball coach at North Plainfield High School.
Rose is essentially swapping positions with former varsity coach Dave Hooker, who stepped down after 12 seasons to take the post at North Plainfield Middle School.
“It’s a great opportunity—I’m in a great community with a lot of talented kids,” St. Rose said. “I can’t wait to get in there and work with the team and build a winning program.”
Previously, St. Rose served as an assistant coach at his alma mater, St. Joseph Regional High School in Montvale, from 1995-2006. He also was a student-assistant on the collegiate level at Rutgers-Newark.
Currently he is the principal of Somerset School in North Plainfield, which presents a delicate juggling act of administrative and coaching duties.
“I understand I’m a principal first—education comes first,” St. Rose said. “It will be a lot of long hours, but I’m doing it because I love it. It gives me an opportunity to be really hands-on with students, which I was missing.”
