Northside High School is undefeated after its 49-21 victory over Jones County Thursday evening.
The Eagles took their first drive of the game for a score, capped by Jurmon Weaver’s 18-yard rushing touchdown.
A few minutes later, Jones County’s Reggie Lewis fumbled on his team’s one yard line. Northside made the Greyhounds pay.
Defensive lineman, AJ Banks, pounced on the loose ball in the endzone. The Eagles appeared to be on their way to a scoring rout with eight minutes left in the first quarter.
Lewis would redeem himself, however, with a 71-yard touchdown reception from Anthony Parker.
The 14-7 score was as close as the Greyhounds would get.
Northside piled on two more touchdowns before the half to go up 28-7. Eagle receiver, AJ Booker, showed tremendous determination after hauling in a high-arcing pass from Marcus Ivory.
Booker took the ball in for a diving score, after being tripped up by a Greyhound defender. The 74-yard play came with 57 seconds left in the half.
Ivory and Jordan each scored a touchdown in the second half.
Jones County’s Lewis ran in two more touchdowns as well, but the Northside offense’s lead proved to be too much to overcome.
Northside is now 7-0 on the season, and 4-0 in 2-AAAAA.
Jones County falls to 4-3, with a 2-2 record in 2-AAAAA.
