Norwich junior Matt Murray won a state title in the 600-meter run on Saturday at the state indoor track championships at Cornell University.
Murray, who placed seventh at last year’s event and entered this year’s meet as the fourth seed, finished the race in 1 minute, 20.61 seconds.
He narrowly edged Jonathan Greenwood of Freeport by less than three-hundredths of a second.
The Section 4 team saw success in the intersectional relay, placing second. Dan White (Chenango Forks), Dakota Babcock (Trumansburg), Cal Randle (Trumansburg) and Richard Buchanan (Windsor) finished the race in 8:57.66; about seven seconds behind winner Section 11.
Buchanan, a sophomore, also placed 17th in the 3,200.
Vestal junior Mike Egotanda, who qualified as a top seed in two events, placed fifth in the long jump but did not place in the high jump after two fouls.
On the girls side, Vestal sophomore Kari Stromhaug placed fourth in the pole vault and was in a tie for 16th in the high jump.
