Tom Agan rushed for 134 yards, ran for two touchdowns and caught a pass for a touchdown to help Notre Dame defeat Watkins Glen 30-14 in Section 4 Division VII football Friday night.
Agan’s rushing tally came on 18 carries, and his touchdown catch was 20 yards from Hunter Thomas. Thomas completed 8-of-13 passes for 130 yards and two touchdowns, with Derrick Marshall catching seven passes for 110 yards and a touchdown.
Notre Dame (6-1, 5-0 Division VII) took advantage of Watkins Glen’s miscues. The Senecas (3-4, 2-3 Division VII) lost two fumbles, were intercepted once and had eight penalties for 65 yards.
Watkins Glen scored on its first and last possessions of the game.
The Senecas took an 8-0 lead after going 60 yards on six plays. Brady Bond passed to John Brown for a 34-yard touchdown, then Brown ran in for the conversion.
Brown finished with a team-high 88 yards on 21 attempts. Bond was 2-of-3 passing for 49 yards before he left in the first half with an injury.
On Watkins Glen’s final drive, which was nine plays for 57 yards, Tony Simiele ran in from 4 yards out.
Meanwhile, Notre Dame cashed in on three of its first four possessions.
On the first, Agan ran 60 yards for the touchdown to complete a two-play, 65-yard drive. The Crusaders used 10 plays on the next one, capped off by Thomas’ 5-yard pass to Marshall in the corner of the end zone. A 24-yard completion from Thomas to Marshall was the big play on the 61-yard march.
Notre Dame took an 18-8 lead with 1:31 to go in the first half on Thomas’ 20-yard pass to Agan, then the Crusaders took control with touchdowns on their first two possessions of the second half. Agan scored from the 5, then Notre Dame went 87 yards on 14 plays, finished by Troy Dygert’s 4-yard plunge.
