Notre Dame hoops commit Taya Reimer good as gold

By

Hamilton Southeastern (Fishers, Ind.) star forward Taya Reimer’s basketball performances are worthy of gold.

No really. She’s even got the hardware to prove it, including from last summer, when Reimer helped the USA Women’s U17 World Championship team edge Spain 75-62 for the gold medal.

No big deal.

At least Reimer’s modest attitude would hint that. But to everyone watching, she’s definitely a big deal.

The preseason American Family Insurance ALL-USA selection and McDonald’s All-American, who will attend Notre Dame, is the focus of this week’s American Family Insurance ALL-USA Watch.

This week’s player: Taya Reimer, Hamilton Southeastern (Fishers, Ind.)
power forward

2012-13 stats thus far: Averaging 20.7 points, 8 rebounds, 2.4 steals and 2.2 blocks per game

Best Game: Reimer became Hamilton Southeastern's all-time leading scorer when she posted her 1,308th point in a game against Fort Wayne Canterbury on Jan. 25.

Others’ take: “Taya brings unique talent to the floor. Her ability to get in the open floor and finish sets her apart. She plays well on the perimeter, and her ability to score creates a lot of problems for everybody that she plays.” — Westfield (Ind.) coach Shane Sumpter

Look Out For: Norcross (Ga.)
guard Diamond DeShields, who is considered the nation’s No. 3 prospect. The North Carolina commit, also a member of the 2012 USA Women’s U17 World Championship Team, was recently named the 2013 Naismith Girls High School Player of the Year.
