Oakland ace Erik Eilers continued his mastery over Smyrna on Friday.

And Sam Douglas provided more than enough offense.

The Patriots defeated Smyrna 9-3 at Jones Field to open the District 7-AAA baseball tournament. It marked the Patriots’ fourth win over Smyrna this season. Eilers threw a no-hitter in their first meeting.

Oakland (24-11) plays La Vernge (24-6) at 2:30 p.m. today. La Vergne, which finished second in District 7-AAA this season, won two of three against the Patriots in the regular season.

Douglas finished the game 3-for-3 with a single, double and home run off Smyrna starter Conner Boyd. Oakland’s nine runs came after the Patriots edged Boyd 1-0 in the regular season.

“We knew what he had (this time),” Douglas said. “We knew what his curve ball and his off speed was like. We could sit back and wait for our pitch.

“This gets us going. Now, we just have to stay hot.”

Eilers (5-3) gave up three runs on four hits. He struck out five and didn’t allow a walk. He hit two batters.

“The main thing with him is he pitched well,” Oakland coach Mack Hawks said. “He had command of pitches. Other than one or two hit batsmen, he pitched well with good command. There wasn’t any reason to take him out. He only threw 86 pitches, I think.”

Oakland tapped Smyrna for four runs in the fourth to break it open, making it 6-1.

Grant Hawkins’ singled drove in two runs. Boyd balked in Douglas, who had singled. And Justin Wilson singled in Hawkins.

Douglas hit a solo home run — his second of the season — an inning later.

Smyrna cut it to 7-3 in the sixth. C.J. Jeffrey singled and later scored. Beau Brewer was then hit by Eilers and later scored. Oakland added two more runs in the sixth. Alex Ward singled in Hawkins and Rhett Stacey’s sacrifice fly drove in courtesy runner Ryan Givens.

Oakland got to Boyd early in the game, scoring two in the second. Hawkins drove in courtesy runner Daulton Smith and Douglas scored on a wild pitch. The Bulldogs trimmed the lead in half in the fourth. Boyd doubled and reached third on an error. Courtesy runner Austin Barrett then scored on a wild pitch.

Blackman 8, Siegel 2: Tennessee signee Hunter Martin struck out seven for the Blaze, who will play Riverdale at 5 p.m. today. Alex Brown had three hits, including a double for Blackman (15-15). Cori Richards had a triple and scored two runs. Austin Mosier had two singles.

Siegel’s Brent Stockstill went 3-for-3 with three singles and was hit by a pitch. Ryan Shultz took the loss.
