THE WINNER: Liz Keester
School: Jenks (Okla.)
Athletic achievement: She scored 32 goals and passed for nine assists this past season, leading the Trojans (15-2) to the Class 6A state finals. Keester, named Gatorade Oklahoma Girls Soccer Player of the Year as a sophomore, is a two-time All-Region selection by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. She was MVP of the Heart of America Classic and set a school record for career goals (82).
Academic excellence: Keester has maintained a 4.02 GPA.
Exemplary character: She has volunteered locally on behalf of the Special Olympics and a youth anti-drug initiative.
“She’s dangerous whenever she has the ball,” said Brian Elliott, head coach at Union (Tulsa, Okla.). “If you lose her, you’re going to give up a goal. She’s unselfish, too, and makes the players around her better.”
THE FUTURE: Keester has signed with Texas A&M.
