Old Town pitcher hopes to inspire future Coyotes

OLD TOWN, Maine (NEWS CENTER) — Old Town senior Kendra Hayward has made her presence known on the mound as a pitcher for the Coyotes softball team. But she doesn’t want this new found legacy to stop anytime soon. In fact, she’s making sure Old Town will be a powerhouse on the diamond in the years to come.

Kendra is using her talents to pay it all forward, by using what free time she has to coach the next generation of Old Town players.

“I’d like to come back in five years and see the younger girls that I taught. Maybe have them on the mound and cheer for them,” she explains.

Head Coach Jenn Plourde certainly hopes that happens. She says Kendra is a natural leader.

“Coaching is kind of in her blood, whether she knows it or not. I think she’ll come back someday and want to participate and coach and help out,” says Coach Plourde.

But for now, Kendra will be studying at Husson University – majoring in pharmacy, while playing for the Eagles softball team.
