A late goal seemed to give Oshkosh North the momentum going into overtime.
Kimberly, unfortunately, had other ideas.
The Papermakers scored the game-winner six minutes into the overtime period to hand the Spartans a 3-2 loss in a Fox Valley Association soccer match on Tuesday night.
“Tonight’s loss is tough to swallow,” commented North head coach Kevin Baetke. “We knocked it around beautifully for long stretches and created some good looks.”
Chuefai Thao scored with less than three minutes to go in regulation to knot the score at 2 for the Spartans after Kimberly had notched two goals about five minutes apart in the second half to take the lead.
Sam Hawley’s goal less than a minute before halftime staked North to the lead and Alex McBriar nearly gave the Spartans a two-goal cushion early in the second but his strike caromed off the crossbar.
Oscar Ceniceros assisted on both goals for North.
Hue Xiong made six saves in goal.
