Oshkosh North’s Brandon Hamm had his hopes of earning a return trip to the WIAA Division 1 state tennis meet were put on hold for a bit on Thursday.

Hamm lost in the quarterfinal round at the sectional tournament at the Fox Cities Racquet Club and will have to wait until Saturday morning to find out if he made the field as a special qualifier.

“There’s a possibility, yeah,” North coach Paul VandenBoogaard said. “He doesn’t have any bad losses on his record and he’s played some of the top players and showed he can play with them.”

Hamm was a special qualifier last season.

The Spartan sophomore lost to Kimberly’s Mitchell Sauder 6-3, 6-1 at the sectional meet. Hamm had beaten Sauder twice during the regular season.
