Don’t get Elijah Thomas wrong; he’s well aware and even accepts that sometimes fans’ passions spill over into a weird territory, but when that weirdness makes his significant other feel uncomfortable it crosses the line.
“I’ve got fans from different schools following and sending private messages to my girlfriend,” Thomas said. “It’s a little too far when you start harassing her.”
Recently, Thomas’ girlfriend, Corrine White, has been getting bombarded with messages from Thomas’ fans asking everything from what schools he likes best to what his mother’s cell number is and even why he’d “better” pick their school.
Such is the life of the No. 5 player in the ESPN 60 for 2015.
“Who does that?” said Thomas, a forward at Prime Prep (Dallas). “They ask the craziest stuff too. She was gonna make her profile private, but I told her not to. She should be able to not have to do that. I didn’t want her to have to change anything about her normal life, but this is getting out of hand.”
Thomas’ advice? Ignore and block.
“People need to understand that I’m still a kid,” Thomas said. “I’m just a really normal guy and I can take the extra stuff when it’s directed at me. But my girlfriend? How do they even know who she is? Can you say ‘crazy?”
