Packerland adjusts schedules for baseball, softball and soccer

The weather continues to take a toll on spring sports in Northeastern Wisconsin.

The Packerland Conference announced on Thursday that its league titles for baseball, softball and soccer will be decided by conference games scheduled for the second half of the season only.
The Packerland is the second area conference to make this decision, as the Olympian made the same determination last week for baseball and softball.
In the case of a double-header in the Packerland, the first game will count as a conference game and the second will be treated as a nonconference contest.
Citing limited makeup dates available before the WIAA playoffs begin, the difficulty in rescheduling umpires and officials and the safety of student-athletes, the Packerland made this move with only a handful of conference games having already been played in baseball, softball and soccer.
“This process is as messy as this year’s spring weather, yet the modification reduces the pressure to complete every contest while affording Packerland baseball, softball, and soccer athletes with equity to compete for a conference championship,” Packerland athletic commissioner Terry Dooley said.
It’s a challenge all area conferences and teams are facing at this point in the season, which for softball, has 28 days remaining before WIAA regional play begins.
Below are the dates WIAA regionals for spring sports.
Softball: May 16
Track and field: May 20
Tennis (subsectionals): May 20-21
Boys golf: May 21
Baseball: May 24
Girls soccer: May 30
