On a night when Palmetto Ridge High School honored its past, it was two Bears players from the present that stole some headlines Friday night.
Andy Garcia threw for 203 yards and three touchdowns and Tony Lesende had 105 yards receiving as the Bears beat Lehigh at Palmetto Ridge.
The Bears scored the first 35 points of the game as Palmetto Ridge celebrated its 10th year of operations in Collier County by honoring past players and coaches.
Matthew Yzaguirre threw for 144 yards for the Lightning.
The Bears defense limited the Lightning to 195 yards of offense.
“Our defense really rose to the occasion,” Palmetto Ridge coach Ryan Mitchell said. “Lehigh has some talented athletes, but our guys made plays on defense when they had to. Our offense made some adjustments, too. Lehigh threw kind of a different defense at us, so we handled all the challenges our offense got pretty well.”
The game was stopped by a 30-minute lightning delay to start the second half.
