Athletic achievement: He captured the Class AA state championship in the shot put this spring with a throw of 61 feet, 8.5 inches. Yohman also took second in the discus with a throw of 180-10, leading the Greyhounds to a fifth-place finish as a team. His season-best effort of 62-1 in the shot put ranked as the nation’s No. 16 performance among prep competitors in 2013 at the time of his selection.
Academic excellence: Yohman has maintained a B average.
Exemplary character: He has volunteered locally on behalf of youth sports programs and his church’s Sunday school program.
THE PRAISE
“Wilmington has been blessed with some outstanding throwers in the past, including state champions, but Jon is the best shot put and discus thrower ever to graduate from the school,” said Wilmington head coach J.R. McFarland. “This year he showed outstanding leadership skills too.”
THE FUTURE: Yohman has signed with Penn State.
