Former Regis Jesuit basketball star Josh Perkins made a verbal commitment to play for Gonzaga Saturday morning on the 9NEWS morning show.
Division one basketball has been his dream, and he’ll be a freshman at Gonzaga in 2014.
“Me and my dad wrote it down on my wall in my room as one of my goals. Get to cross another goal off and keep reaching for the top,” Perkins told 9NEWS.
The 6’2” made his announcement the day before he turned 18.
“Birthday present to myself,” said Perkins.
Despite the fact that he is going to play his senior year of high school at Huntington Prep in West Virginia, Perkins returned home to reveal his college decision.
“Certain people, have always had my back. So I wanted to come back here and do it live in from of them. No matter where I go my senior year. I’m from here and I’ll always be a Colorado native,” said Perkins.
He picked a school that has been to 15 straight NCAA tournaments, but the Bulldogs have never won it. That’s something Perkins hopes to change.
