The Statesmen’s solid zone defense and 9 points from guard Grant Leibow, threw the Chargers out of their rhythm.
But aggressive shooting from Chantilly guards Tyler Femi and DeAndre Harris, who racked up 14 and eight points respectively, in the in the fourth quarter alone, helped re-energize the Chargers. Chantilly ultimately defeated Marshall, 66-45.
“Our guys did a pretty nice job gathering themselves and I thought we showed a lot of character playing well in the fourth quarter,” said Chantilly head coach Jim Smith.
The victory means Chantilly, now 18-7, will advance to the second round of the tournament on Tuesday night to take on a 10-16 South County squad.
“The last two weeks we’ve been playing very good basketball,” said Smith. “We got things going a little bit, so you just don’t want to change too much, just go out and keep going.”
