WASHINGTON (WUSA 9) — H.D. Woodson defeated Wilson 25-13 in front of a packed stadium at Eastern High School on Thursday afternoon. The Turkey Bowl victory marked the Warriors’ second DC Interscholastic Athletic Association (DCIAA) title since 2010.
“I’m proud because these guys have had a lot of adversity this year,” said Woodson head coach Steve Scott. “These young men … they stepped up.”

Tennessee commit D’Andre Payne, the game’s official MVP, set the pace for Woodson’s victorious second half with a 60-yard touchdown pass that put the Warriors ahead 19-7 in the third quarter.
“I love my team … We just came out, we worked hard, we got the win,” said Payne.
Woodson quarterback Rashad Cooper scored next, bumping the score to 25-13 and putting a safe distance between the Warriors and the Tigers.
Wilson running back Larry Frazier scored with 5:42 left in the game, but it wasn’t enough to launch a comeback for the Tigers.
Woodson (10-3) will advance to the D.C. State Athletic Association Championship on December 6 at Catholic University. The Warriors will face the winner of Saturday’s McKinley Tech versus Friendship Collegiate game.
