Pingry draws top seed for SCT; SP-Fanwood top-seeded in UCT

The 2013 Somerset County Girls Soccer Tournament was seeded Tuesday evening during a meeting of coaches at Ridge High School and Pingry was awarded the top seed.

The Big Blue, who missed the final last season for the first time in 11 years, will be seeking their first crown since 2007. Two-time defending champ Montgomery received the No. 3 seed.

The Top 4 seeds receive a double-bye into the quarterfinals, while the No. 5-No.8 seeds get a first-round bye.

The tournament begins Friday with a play-in game, as Somerset Tech enters the tournament for the first time, making it a 17-team field. First-round games are slated for Saturday, with the second round Oct. 5.

The quarterfinal are scheduled for Oct. 12 with the semifinals Oct. 19 and the final to be held Oct. 26 at Bridgewater-Raritan High School.

17-Bound Brook at 16-Manville, winner at 9-Fraklin, winner at 8-Bernards, winner at 1-Pingry

15-North Plainfield at 10-Mount St. Mary, winner at 7-Hillsborough, winner at 2-Bridgewater-Raritan

14-Somerset Tech at 11-Immaculata, winner at 6-Watchung Hills, winner at 3-Montgomery

13-Gill St. Bernard’s at 12-Rutgers Prep, winner at 5-Somerville, winner at 4-Ridge

Union County Tournament

Three-time defending champion Scotch Plains-Fanwood received the No. 1 seed in the Union County Tournament. The Raiders, who have qualified for the previous eight finals and have won seven, and join the other Top 4 seeds with byes to the quarterfinals.

Westfield, which shared last year’s title with the Raiders, is seeded third.

The No. 5 through No. 8 seeds get a bye into the third round, with the No. 9 through No. 12 seeds off until the second round.

The tournament begins Saturday with four first-round games, continuing Oct 2 and then Oct. 5, with the quarterfinals slated for Oct. 12. The semifinals are scheduled for Oct. 19 at A.L. Johnson High School, with the final being held Oct. 27 at Kean University.
