Prep baseball: Lincoln splits DH with GB Preble


After falling in Game 1 6-5, the Manitowoc Lincoln baseball team rebounded to defeat host Green Bay Preble in Game 2 8-3 on Saturday.

With each team scoring two runs in the first inning of Game 1, Lincoln took a 4-2 lead in the fifth inning, but Preble responded in the bottom half with four runs and held off a rally by the Ships, who scored their final run in the seventh inning.

Brennan Mrotek took the loss with 42/3 innings of work, allowing six earned runs on five hits and three walks with six strikeouts. Byron Anderson pitched 11/3 innings of relief for Lincoln, allowing one hit and striking out three.

The Ships were led by Nick Spurney on offense as he was 2-for-2 with three runs while teammate Ben Kohls was 1-for-3 with two-run homer.

In Game 2, Lincoln jumped out to a 4-0 after two innings and never looked back. Anderson started and earned the win, pitching three innings and allowing two runs, one earned, on two hits and five walks with one strikeout.

Spurney and Carl Samz each pitched two innings of relief, with Samz allowing one earned run on one hit and five walks while Spurney allowed no runs on one hit and two walk.

Six of the nine starters for Lincoln collected hits while two pinch hitters also had hits. Batting leadoff, Anderson was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI while Mrotek was 1-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.
