Prep baseball roundup: Lutheran pitchers allow 2 hits in win

Three pitchers combined to allow two hits as the Manitowoc Lutheran baseball team defeated visiting Green Bay NEW Lutheran 6-1 on Monday.

Peter Menges started and pitched three innings to earn the win while Kyle Staudt and Jared Muench each pitched two innings. The three pitchers each collected three strikeouts while Menges allowed the two hits and an unearned run in the second inning.

Trailing 1-0, Lutheran scored three runs in the third inning and two in the fourth to put the game out of reach.

Batting leadoff, David Menk was 1-for-2 with three runs, two walks and an RBI while teammate Joe Pautz was 1-for-2 with two walks and a run. Menges was 2-for-3 with a run, and RBI and a walk, Muench was 2-for-3 and Adam Englebrecht was 1-for-1 with an RBI.

Brillion 20, Mishicot 3 (five innings)

Mishicot allowed Brillion to score six runs in the first and third innings in the home loss.

Weston Cracraft and Brett Reinhart each went 1-for-2 for Mishicot with Cracraft notching an RBI. Also for the Indians, Derek Hlinak was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run and Aaron Schnell was 2-for-2 with a run.

Tanner Orth started and took the loss, allowing seven earned runs on three hits and one walk in 23 innings. Mishicot had six errors as Derek Cornils pitched 223 innings of relief, Jeff Stueck pitched 113 innings and Kyle Haskell pitched 13 innings.

Cornils allowed six runs — one earned — on four hits and four walks while Stueck allowed two runs — none earned — on three hits and four walks. Haskell allowed one hit and two walks.

Green Bay Southwest 4, Manitowoc Lincoln 0

Host Green Bay Southwest scored one run in the first inning and three in the sixth as Lincoln couldn’t recover.

Carl Samz took the complete-game loss as he had three strikeouts and six walks.

Offensively, Nick Spurney and Ben Kohls each went 1-for-3 for Lincoln.

The Ships next are at Bay Port today.

Wrightstown 7, Reedsville 1

Host Reedsville fell behind 5-1 after two innings and couldn’t recover.

Elliott Ebert took the loss for the Panthers, going six innings and allowing six runs — four earned — on seven hits with seven strikeouts and one walk. Ebert also paced the Panthers offense, going 2-for-4 on a pair of singles.

WIAA Postseason

Having released its brackets for the Division 2-4 State Baseball Tournament, the WIAA on Monday revealed its brackets for the Division 1 State Baseball Tournament with Manitowoc Lincoln being awarded a No. 8 seed. As a result, the Ships will host No. 9 Beaver Dam on May 28 at 4:30 p.m.
