Down 2-0 for most of the game, the Manitowoc Lutheran baseball team rallied to score five runs in the bottom of the sixth to defeat visiting Valders on Thursday 5-2.
Peter Menges started for the Lancers and allowed a run in each of the first two innings to the Vikings but settled down after that going the distance for the win. Menges scattered six hits over seven innings allowing two runs — both earned — while striking out four and walking one.
Ryan Jirschele took the loss for Valders allowing two runs — one earned — and walked two in relief of starter Jon Shimon. Shimon pitched five innings, allowing two runs — both earned — on four hits with two strikeouts and one walk.
Adam Engelbrecht led the Lutheran’s offense by going 2-for-3, accounting for half of the Lancers four hits. For the Vikings, Brandon Ertl (2-for-4) and Ben Behnke (2-for-3) each had two hits while Behnke added an RBI.
Roncalli 5, St. Lawrence Seminary 0
With two outs in the top of the second Justin Bonin got an RBI hit for Roncalli and the Jets never looked back in the road win.
Tyler Heyduk was 2-for-2 with a run to lead Roncalli offensively while Wesley Pautz was 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
Zach Berres earned the complete-game win for the Jets, allowing three hits and two walks with six strikeouts.
