Prep baseball roundup: Spartans rally past Otters, 3-2


COLD SPRING – Blake Holbrook scored from third base on a passed ball in the bottom of the seventh inning Monday to lift Rocori to a 3-2 win over Fergus Falls in a Central Lakes Conference baseball game.

Austin Athmann tied the game at 2-2 with a solo home run in the fifth inning.

Mac Mueller went 2-for-3 and Jeron Terres hit an RBI double for the Spartans (8-2 Central Lakes, 8-3 overall).

Jake Hennen struck out 10 and pitched a complete-game two-hitter for Rocori.

St. Cloud Apollo 4, Sartell 0

The Eagles played efficient baseball, scoring four runs off four hits to notch a win at the Municipal Athletic Complex.

Sartell, which at one point had the bases loaded all on walks, had only one hit on the day.

Brandon Bloch, who drove in a run for Apollo (6-3 CLC, 7-4), also pitched five innings to get the win. He had six strikeouts and gave up the lone hit.

Cooper Lynch also drove in a run for Apollo, while Dallas Haugen picked up the save.

Brainerd 2, Sauk Rapids 1

BRAINERD – The Storm’s Tyler Bjork doubled home Cole VanHalbeck to tie the game at 1-1 in the third inning, but Brainerd scored the game-winner in the fifth.

Tom Graumann got the pitching win, allowing five hits.

Nate Freihammer took the loss for the Storm (5-5 CLC, 6-5 overall), going six innings without allowing an earned run. He allowed five hits and struck out five with one walk.

Albany 9-1, Little Falls 0-2

LITTLE FALLS – Gabe Ploof pitched a complete-game three-hitter with nine strikeouts as Little Falls won 2-1 in Game 2 to salvage a split in its doubleheader with Albany. The Huskies won the opener 9-0.

Kyle Boser doubled for the Flyers (8-2 Granite Ridge, 8-3 overall) in the second game and Little Falls scored both runs scored on wild pitches.

In Game 1, Nolan Anderson and Aaron Eiynck both went 2-for-4 and Scott Litchy threw a complete-game two-hitter for the Huskies.

Michael Schlangen and Matt Schlangen had two RBI each for the Huskies.

Holdingford 7-0, Eden Valley-Watkins 0-3

WATKINS – The Huskers (6-4) and Eagles (2-8) traded shutouts in a Central Minnesota Conference doubleheader.

In the opener, Holdingford’s Jake Nelson tossed a three-hitter and fanned six in the Huskers’ 7-0 win. Cody Schwinghammer was 2-for-2 with an RBI.

In the nightcap, Eden Valley-Watkins’ Austin Berg allowed one hit — a clean single with one out in the sixth inning. The senior right-hander struck out three, and teammates Grant Winter and Hayden Willner supplied run-scoring hits.

Pierz 8-11, Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa 6-1

PIERZ – Cody Weiss finished the day 4-for-6 with six RBI and two doubles in Pierz’s sweep of Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa.

Ben Boser had three hits, including a pair of doubles, and six runs scored for the Pioneers. Nate Meyer and Cody Meyer got the pitching wins.

Matt Schmitz led the Jaguars with three hits — a solo home run and two doubles — and two RBI.

Royalton 12, Isle 0

ROYALTON – Cade Stang went 2-for-2 with two doubles and three RBI as Royalton pounded Isle in a Prairie Conference game.

Brady Moulzolf was 2-for-4 with a double and three runs scored for the Royals (4-7 overall), who scored eight runs in the first inning.

Stang struck out eight, walked two and allowed one hit in five innings to get the win.
