Just three games remain in the prep basketball season, meaning the race for a conference championship is heating up with no conference as packed as the Olympian for both the boys and girls.
The Roncalli boys basketball team (15-4, 12-3 OC) trails first place Brillion (17-2, 14-1) by two games while for the girls, Reedsville 17-2, 13-2) is tied with perennial favorite Wrightstown (16-3, 13-2).
Of the two, the Panthers face the easiest path to a title as they’ve already split the season title with the Tigers. Reedsville lost 46-43 in Wrightstown on Dec. 18 while holding serve at home last Tuesday 39-30.
The final three games for the Panthers sees them host Valders (2-16, 2-13) and Brillion (9-9, 6-9) today and Feb. 14, respectively, before finishing at Chilton (6-13, 4-11) on Feb. 21 The Tigers host St. Mary Central (12-6, 10-5) today, traveling to Manitowoc Lutheran (11-7, 9-6) on Feb. 14 and finishing the season at home versus Valders.
One positive for the Jets is the Lions will be visiting Roncalli in the final game of the season on Feb. 15, meaning one loss in Brillion’s next two games, versus Hilbert (10-9, 8-7) on Friday or at Manitowoc Lutheran (9-10, 7-8) on Tuesday, allow the Jets to control their own destiny.
Roncalli, meanwhile, hosts St. Mary Central (3-16, 1-14) and Valders (9-10, 7-8) on Friday and Tuesday, respectively, before the clash with the Lions.
