Brock McFarland broke Jay County’s school scoring record, scoring 19 points in Friday’s 66-25 victory against Bellmont. McFarland has 1,165 career points, breaking Dan Ferrell’s record of 1,155 points.
Jay County (20-2) will play the winner of Tuesday’s Homestead-Huntington North game next Friday in the Class 4A Huntington North Sectional.
* Union 49, Randolph Southern 26
: Union pulled away in the fourth quarter to 49-26 win over Randolph Southern to close its regular season.
Union coach Jeff Holloway said Randolph Southern slowed down the tempo, and Union missed some early, forced shots. He said his team’s defense improved in the second half, as did its shooting. The Rebels were held to just four points in the third quarter.
Tanner Cates led Union with 15 points, while Spencer Shore scored 14 and Willie Eviston had 11.
The Rockets (15-5, 7-1 Mid-Eastern Conference,) finished in sole possession of second place in the MEC.
* Wes-Del 50, Alexandria 49: Host Wes-Del put Alexandria in a five-point hole at the end of the first quarter and led the remainder of the game. The Warriors’ Sam Paul and Desmond Wilson shared team-high honors with 16 points each.
“It was a really good team win,” Wes-Del coach Joel Roush said. “We shared the ball and got stops and when you do those things you’re going to be successful.”
* Heritage Hall 90, Colonial Christian 59: Heritage Hall used a big second quarter to pull away on the road.
Joey Neal had 31 points to lead the Patriots, and Caleb Mansfield scored 21. Garrett Prewitt added 16 points, and also grabbed eight rebounds. The trio combined to hit nine 3-pointers, including four by Prewitt.
The Patriots finished the regular season with a 14-4 record. Heritage Hall will meet Suburban Christian in the first round of the Indiana Association of Christian Schools tournament on March 1.
