Clutch shooter: Shots made in the last few seconds by Anderson enabled the Panthers to edge Okemos 56-54 on Jan. 8 and St. Johns 71-69 last Friday. He also hit three consecutive three-pointers to turn a 42-39 deficit early in the fourth quarter into a 48-42 lead and added five more points down the stretch as DeWitt topped East Lansing 60-51 earlier last week. He is shooting 44 percent from 3-point range, 48 percent for all field goals and 87 percent on free throws while averaging 23.9 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. He was also a LSJ Dream Team selection in football while helping the 10-3 Panthers make the Division 3 state semifinals.
From coach Ron Marlan: “He loves the ball in his hands when the game is on the line. He does all the little things it takes to win, and wants to win no matter what he’s playing — even if it’s a drill in practice. He plays with a high level of confidence. Some shots are tough shots, and he’s finding a way. The shot in the Okemos game was a broken play where he had to improvise. Against St. Johns, give the kids credit for setting the play up and setting the screen for him, but give credit to him for making the shot.”
