XINGHAO WANG

GRAND LEDGE junior

Multiple records and more to come: Xinghao (pronounced Shing how) has the fastest time in the first honor roll of mid-Michigan swimmers in the 200 individual medley, 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke. He also is second to Okemos senior Adam Marsh in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke, and third in the 100 and 500 freestyle. He has earned a 3.9 grade-point average, made the Lansing State Journal Dream Team in boys swimming and diving in 2011-12, and has set Grand Ledge school records in the 200 free and 200 IM.

From coach Ian Townsend: “He works hard every day in practice. He’s been an asset to our team for the last three years. He’s capable of breaking a school record every time he competes. He’s broken two of our pool records (at Grand Ledge), the 200 IM and 100 fly, including one that was set by me when I was in high school. He’s willing to go out there against anybody, and is OK with swimming whatever events the team needs to do what he can to help us win. We have a smaller team of 15 or 16 younger guys, and he has stepped up and been a big part of our success (3-0 start in the CAAC Blue) by being the tough guy on our relays and a guy who wins two events.”
