Large presence: The 6-3, 285-pound Rathbun, who was a Lansing State Journal Dream Team selection as a center on Haslett’s football team, also plays center for the CAAC-leading Eastside Stars. Rathbun leads the league with 16 points on six goals and 10 assists. Forwards Ryan Tyrer and Andy Petersmark on his line have also scored six goals each for the team that is made of up players from Haslett, Williamston, Bath, East Lansing and Laingsburg.
From coach Scott Crilly: “He’s a force, and he has skating talents. He’s not the fastest guy on ice, but his size makes his speed deceptive. He has great hands and great vision. He’s very comical. He brings humor to the locker room room in a good way. He looks out for the younger guys on the team. He’s with two very good players on a line, and the three together are unstoppable. They have not met a line yet that can stop them. He would have made a big difference in the Lumen Christi game last Saturday but he was suspended for a hit from behind in a previous game.”
