Prep boys basketball: Area teams continue postseason journey

Three Manitowoc County boys basketball teams will get their first taste of the postseason tonight while three continue their journey after first-round wins earlier this week in the WIAA State Boys Basketball Tournament.

Having not competed in several days, Roncalli and Two Rivers in Division 3 and Manitowoc Lincoln in Division 1 have their first postseason games tonight while Manitowoc Lutheran and Reedsville in Division 4 will have second-round games, as will Kiel in Division 3. All games are scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip off.

No. 6-seeded Lincoln (9-13, 7-9 Olympian Conference) will be at No. 3 Bay Port (13-9, 11-5 OC). In the pair’s only meeting in early January at Bay Port, the Ships emerged victorious 52-41.

Lutheran (10-13, 7-11 Olympian Conference), a No. 5 seed, advanced to play at No. 4 Howards Grove (15-7, 11-5 Central Lakeshore Conference). The pair each earned convincing wins over their two common opponents — Sheboygan Christian and Mishicot.

Also having a road game will be No. 6 Reedsville (8-15, 5-13 OC) at No. 3 Oshkosh Lourdes (14-7, 12-2 Trailways-North Conference).

The only common opponent the two have is St. Mary Central, who Reedsville beat twice but who Lourdes fell to 73-65 in late January.

In Division 3, No. 2 Roncalli (18-4, 15-3 OC) will host No. 7 Luxemburg-Casco (11-12, 7-9 Bay Conference) as the Jets enter winners of nine of their last 10 games. The pair had no common opponents in the regular season.

No. 4 Two Rivers (15-7, 9-5 Eastern Wisconsin Conference) opens by hosting No. 5 Chilton (17-6, 13-5 OC). The Raiders split its season series with Sheboygan Falls and Kiel, both teams Chilton defeated in their only regular-season matchups.

No. 9-seeded Kiel (8-15, 4-10 EWC) may have the toughest test of the local teams tonight as it will be at No. 1 Oostburg (20-2, 16-0 CLC). While Kiel split its season series with Two Rivers and fell to Howards Grove 64-55 to open the season, Oostburg defeated each team by 16 or more points.
