The Manitowoc Lincoln boys basketball team defeated visiting Sheboygan South on Tuesday 65-49,
Austin Mecca led the Ships with a team-high 19 points while teammate Kyle Hoffman had his second-straight solid game, adding 16, including a pair of 3’s.
Jake Rohrer hit a 3-pointer straight from the opening tip to get the Ships going offensively. The early going was tight, with both sides hitting from deep.
Lincoln led 17-13 after Mecca scored his eighth point of the first quarter right before the horn sounded.
The second quarter saw the Redwings get back in it, cutting the Ships lead to 22-20 midway through the quarter. Lincoln extended the lead to 29-23 after Austin Braun hit a 3-pointer.
After trading baskets, the Ships took a 31-26 advantage into the half. Neither team seemed able to take control, with a team going on a small run before being answered almost immediately by the opposition.
Preston Ullman made a quick basket in transition off a feed by Hoffman to get Lincoln off on the right foot to start the second half. With 3:09 left in the third, the Ships took advantage of a sloppy South squad to lead 39-31.
Lincoln outscored the Redwings by four in the quarter to hold a 45-36 lead entering the fourth.
The rest of the game belonged to the Ships, who finished the contest on a 20-13 run.
