Tied 49-49 with less than two minutes left in the game, the Two Rivers basketball team’s Brett Kasper hit a 3-pointer and a layup on consecutive possessions and the Raiders held off Plymouth in a 61-53 road win on Tuesday night.
Trailing since 3:56 left in the third quarter, the Raiders took its first of the fourth quarter at 47-46 with 3:30 left in the game and after Kasper’s heroics hit free throws the rest of the way to fight off the Panthers’ comeback efforts on their Senior Night.
Two Rivers (13-7, 7-5 Eastern Wisconsin Conference)led early, with Plymouth’s (15-6, 11-2 EWC) first lead of the game coming with 28 seconds left in the first quarter as the Panthers led 9-7 entering the second quarter.
In the second quarter Two Rivers’ Dexter Smith scored 12 of his 14 points and hit a 3-pointer at 3:13 left in the first half to give Two Rivers its first second-quarter lead.
Smith — who made all four of his 3-pointers in the second quarter — made one at the buzzer to give Two Rivers a 27-21 halftime lead. Smith additionally had a game-high 11 rebounds.
Two Rivers had seven 3-pointers in the first half and 10 in the game.
Grabbing a lead late in the third quarter, Plymouth’s Kollin Neils hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Panthers a 40-36 entering the final frame.
The Raiders, who didn’t attempt a free throw in the first half, ended the night 11-of-13 with Ethan Willman going 6-for-6 in the final minute of regulation. Willman finished with 12 points, as did Kasper, who also had seven rebounds.
Two Rivers was led in scoring by Brett Linzmeier who had a game-high 16 points to go along with eight rebounds and eight assists.
Two Rivers was 11-of-13 on free-throws while Plymouth was 6-of-10 with five 3-pointers.
