Senior James Wise finished second in diving to lead the Valders-Brillion-Chilton co-op boys swimming team to a 15th-place team finish with 56 points at the WIAA State Division 2 Swimming and Diving Meet on Friday night at the UW Natatorium in Madison.
Wise finished behind Whitefish Bay sophomore Joe Kaszubowski as he had a 513.40 to beat Wise’s 444.80. Wise’s score was 9.40 better than his sectional score from last weekend.
Also in diving for the co-op, senior Nate Pleshek was 14th with 274.30 to best his sectional score of 267.30. All of the meet’s events had 16 competitors.
Monona Grove won the meet with 258 points to lead the 30-team field.
Individually Valders’ Michael Evans was ninth in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.61 behind Grafton senior Al Nennig’s winning time of 21.08. Additionally for the co-op, junior Riley Friedrichs was 11th in the 100 freestyle (50.31) to trail Fort Atkinson senior winner Lee Hollman (47.47).
The co-op finished 16th in its first relay event of the meet — the 200 medley — as freshman Jason Cleven, senior Jared Kasten, sophomore Jordan Appel and senior Keaton Harel finished in 1:48.55 behind Monona Grove’s winning time of 1:36.74.
In the 200 freestyle relay, the co-op’s team of Evans, junior Zachary Siikarla, junior Jared Tayler and Friedrichs finished 10th (1:31.57) behind Monona Grove’s winning time of 1:27.28.
In the final event of the meet, the co-op’s Evans, Siikarla, Appel and Friedrichs finished 14th in the 400 freestyle relay (3:24.72) behind Fort Atkinson’s winning time of 3:15.90.
The Division 1 meet will be held today.
