Prep boys tennis: Lincoln's Rohrer, Schroeder advance at State

Jake Rohrer and Nick Schroeder (21-4) extended their Manitowoc Lincoln boys tennis careers another day after winning their opening match of the WIAA State Boys Individual Tennis Tournament at Division 1 doubles on Thursday.

The duo defeated Hudson’s Griff Robertson-Sam Duchow (12-4) in straight sets 6-2, 7-6 (3), setting up a matchup today against Muskego’s Nick Oleniczak-Ben Ziolkowski (16-3) at 10 a.m.

Also competing for the Ships — but failing to advance — was Michael Olson and David Wronkowski (11-2), who lost in straight sets to John Price and Tylor Rosera (23-4), of Neenah, 6-2, 7-6 (8).

Division 2

Roncalli’s Brett Giesen (24-5) defeated Tim Vallon (9-6) of McFarland 6-0, 6-0 to advance and take on Brookfield Academy’s Will Conley (15-7) at 11 a.m. today in singles.

The Jets’ other qualifier, the No. 1 doubles duo of Joel Ledvina and Ben Brotz (13-10), fell to Matt Miller and Tanner Braunschweig (10-0) of East Troy in straight sets 6-1, 6-2.

Brian Ruedinger-Brice Ruedinger (16-2), the lone represntative from Two Rivers, were victorious in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, over Danny Trunzo and Adil Bhatia (9-7) of Brookfield Academy. The pair will face University School of Milwaukee’s Joey Harris and Spencer Haas at noon today in doubles (22-5).
