Stevens Point Area Senior High turned the WIAA Division 1 sectional meet into the Panthers Invitational on Saturday.
Led by individual champion Evan Hatton, the SPASH boys qualified for the Division 1 state meet for the 33rd time and eighth consecutive year after placing five runners in the top seven to finish with 18 points — 90 points better than runner-up D.C. Everest — and capture the sectional title at Standing Rocks Park.
Meanwhile, the Panthers girls claimed their second straight sectional championship with 57 points to edge Wisconsin Valley Conference rival Wausau East by one point.
In addition, Amherst’s Alissa Niggemann qualified as an individuals for the Division 3 state meet by placing second overall at the sectional with a time of 15:27.1. She will be joined by the Iola-Scandinavia duo of Leighten Fischer and Emily Sether, who placed 10th and 11th overall, respectively.
The WIAA State Meet will be held Saturday, Nov. 2 at The Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids.
