Prep Football - CLC Roundup: Cedar Grove-Belgium beats Ozaukee

By

It didn’t take long for Cedar Grove-Belgium to respond to Ozaukee’s first big play of the night Friday.

Jacob Wolff connected with Michael Richter on a 71-yard passing play that ended in a touchdown and a quick 7-0 Warriors lead in the first quarter. Not a team to wait long to answer score for score, Cedar Grove’s Drew Emperley spotted Logan Peterson for a 48-yard game-tying touchdown on the Rockets’ very next possession.

From there, running back Aaron Chier took the game into his own hands, loading three more touchdowns onto Cedar Grove’s side of the scoreboard by the end of the third quarter and helping deliver a 35-14 Central Lakeshore Conference win for the Rockets. Emperley added the game’s finishing touch: a 14-yard TD run in the third quarter.

“Ozaukee’s a big-play team, but so are we,” Cedar Grove coach Chris Zablocki said, commenting on the quick set of punches both teams delivered early in the opening quarter. “They have multiple weapons and so do we.”

“It was a hard-fought game,” he said. “… Our guys persevered and started getting things rolling, and we were able to come away at the end.”

Ozaukee’s Collin Stageman scored on an 83-yard kickoff return in the second quarter to make the score 21-14 at halftime.

Cedar Grove climbs to 6-1 overall and 4-0 in the CLC. Ozaukee drops to 5-2, 1-2 CLC.
