The host Manitowoc Lutheran football team defeated Reedsville on Friday 12-6 to give the Panthers their first loss of the season while clinching a playoff for the Lancers.

Brock Gilsdorf ran for 115 yards on 32 carries for Reedsville (6-1, 3-1 Olympian-Packerland Small), accounting over half the Panthers’ 200 yards off offense.

Lutheran (4-3, 3-1 O-P Small), won the turnover battle forcing recovering one fumble while forcing three and intercepting Gilsdorf once. Gilsdorf was held in check through the air by the Lancers defense, as he failed to complete a pass on nine attempts.

It was Reedsville who struck first, with Tyler Schuh carrying it in from 18-yards out to give the Panthers a 6-0 advantage after the point after was missed after the first quarter.

Ethan Hillmer responded for Lutheran, finding Alex Thom for a four-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter. Like Reedsville, the Lancers point after was no good as Seth Hillmer’s kick was blocked and both sides entered halftime deadlocked at 6-6.

It would remain that way until Ethan Hillmer connected with Joe Pautz on a 19-yard strike to put Lutheran up for good. Hillmer finished the night 3-of-6 for 37 yards and the two touchdowns while teammate Tyler Blattler carried the ball nine times for 81 yards to lead the ground attack.

Next week Lutheran visits St. Mary Central, while Reedsville hosts Algoma.
