Will Kleinert and Avi Manthe each went over the century mark on the ground for the Manitowoc Lutheran football team as the Lancers picked up their first win of the season on Friday, defeating host Howards Grove 35-14.
Manthe ran for 120 yards and touchdown while Kleinert added 108 a pair of touchdowns, part of 329 yards rushing for Manitowoc Lutheran.
Kleinert rumbled in from two yards out to get the Lancers on the board in the first quarter before Lutheran quarterback Ethan Hilmer connected with receiver Joe Pautz for a 44-yard touchdown. Pautz finished with a team-high three receptions for 79 yards while Hilmer led the Lutheran aerial attack, completing 5-of-12 passes for 93.
The Lancers led 14-7 after halftime, but Manthe’s 56-yard scoring run kept the visitors comfortable with a 21-14 lead entering the fourth quarter.
Hilmer scored again to start the fourth, this time on a five-yard run before Kleinert capped the scoring on a 10-yard scamper.
