Prep football: Mishicot edges St. Mary Central

Mishicot had two runners break the century mark while finding the endzone once on Friday as the Indians defeated visiting St. Mary Central on Friday 36-19.

Jonathan Peterson carried the ball 19 times for 123 yards while teammate Tim Kue chipped in 113 more yards on 12 carries to power the Indians rushing attack.

Through the air, Mishicot’s Quenten Haack made the most of his five completions on 13 attempts, throwing three touchdowns. Haack’s favorite target was receiver Jeff Stueck, who caught two passes for 64 yards and two scores.

The scoring got started when Peterson scampered in from 31-yards out and Haack found Stueck for a 28-yard stroke to give the Indians a 14-6 lead after the first quarter. Haack then connected with Peterson for an 18-yard touchdown followed by a successful two-point run and a 22-12 halftime advantage for Mishicot.

The Zephyrs held the Indians in check until the fourth quarter, when Haack hit Stueck for a 36-yard score and Kue raced in from 46 yards out to ice the game.

Mishicot visits Oconto next Friday.
