After a sluggish start, the Roncalli football team found its rhythm in the second quarter en route to a 35-0 victory over visiting New Holstein on Friday.
Jets quarterback Jared Patek got Roncalli on the board with a 21-yard run with 6:20 left in the second quarter before finding teammate Alec Salutz for a 33-yard touchdown pass on his only reception of the game with 1:25 remaining before half.
Patek finished the night 5-of-7 through the air for 78 yards and 21 yards on the ground on six carries.
“We came out flat,” said Roncalli coach Ray Baranczyk. “We have really good leaders on this team so I knew we’d be able to put it together. I felt if we kept going like we did in the second quarter we’d be fine.”
Entering halftime, the Jets led 13-0 and would dominate the third quarter to put the game out of reach for the visitors.
Joey Macdonald would score on runs from 13 and five yards in the third sandwiched around teammate JP Ruether’s 15-yard touchdown scamper.
Roncalli outgained New Holstein 313-88 in total offense with the Huskies accruing all their offense on the ground, failing to complete a pass on six attempts.
