Playingin front of its Homecoming crowd, Gull Lake pulled away after halftime to take down Battle Creek Central, 27-13, on Friday.

The Blue Devils led just 14-13 at the half, but outscored the Bearcats 13-0 after the intermission to improve to 2-4 on the year and 2-2 in the Southwestern Michigan Athletic Conference. B.C. Central drops to 1-5 overall and 0-4 in the SMAC East.

Gull Lake quarterback Ryan Mutchler had a nice day with 15 carries for 162 yards and a touchdown.

BCC scored in the first quarter when Julian Cooper ran in a 2-yard touchdown. Cooper later connected with Joe Watson for a 90-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter to give the Bearcats six more points.

Seth Eldridge scored on a TD plunge from a yard out for the Blue Devils in the third quarter and field goal kicker Maggie Harma put two through the uprights to cap off the scoring for Gull Lake.

On the defensive side of the ball, Nick Miller was stellar for Gull Lake with two interceptions and a 22-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown. Odell Miller led the Blue Devils with nine tackles.

Gull Lake’s Ryan Loney had five catches for 65 yards in the win.

Olivet 59, (at) Galesburg-Augusta 6: Tyler Masters took it to the house three different ways with a 65-yard rushing score, a 27-yard TD catch and a 63-yard punt return for a TD to lead Division 5 No. 5-ranked Olivet to victory. The Eagles’ Wyatt Smith added 12 carries for 84 yards and two TDs and Ben Turner had 13 carries for 67 yards and a score. Olivet’s Tate McCarn had two catches for 19 yards and also ran in a three-yard TD. Rob Funk scored for the Eagles on a two-yard TD run. Chase McGill had five tackles to lead Olivet (6-0, 6-0 KVA) defensivley. Turner, Jordan Sinclair and Ryzer Zaremba had four tackles apiece for the Eagles.

Coldwater 42, (at) Loy Norrix 6: Coldwater’s Cooper Murphy rushed nine times for 201 yards and two TDs in the win. Also for the Cardinals, Bryant Garrett had seven rushes for 87 yards and a score and Luke Beckhusen had 44 rushing yards and two TDs. Defensively, Zach DeMeester had 11 tackles and Austin Seigel had nine tackles for Coldwater (3-3, 3-1 SMAC East).

Springport 47, (at) Athens 30: Hunter Bolton led Athens defensively with an interception, a fumble recovery for a TD and eight tackles. The Indians’ Jake Iles threw for 105 yards and two TD passes, including a 55-yard strike to Austin Fraley and a 10-yard TD pass to Jonah Harris. Also for Athens (0-6), Austin Cole had 10 carries for 86 yards, including a 47-yard score.

(At) Climax-Scotts 21, Pittsford 14: The host Panthers — ranked No. 7 in Division 8 — took a 21-6 lead into the fourth quarter and then ran the clock out after Pittsford scored late to win the tough SCAA matchup. Cody Moody scored on a 12-yard run in the second quarter, and Samuel Eshuis had a 52-yard score and then a 77-yard run for a TD in the third quarter for C-S (6-0, 4-0). Eshuis finished the night with 202 yards rushing on 16 carries, and Logan Simmons had 48 yards on 12 tries. Simmons, as a linebacker, also had nine tackles and an interception; Taylor McNally had seven tackles and a sack; and Moody had an interception and recovered a fumble.

(At) Bellevue 60, Camden-Frontier 21: Tyler Lane scored three TDs on bursts of 44, 67 and 18 yards as the host Broncos improved to 4-2 overall and 3-1 in the SCAA. Also offensively, Danny Pluff scored on runs of 47 and 17 yards, Darren Sommers had TD rushes of 28 and 8 yards, and Gerald Roberson returned a kickoff 81 yards for a score. Defensively, Ethan Bloch had 11 tackles and Roberson had an interception.

(At) Quincy 54, Union City 7: Jimmy King scored on runs of 2, 33 and 7 yards and finished the night with 118 yards rushing on 15 carries as the host Orioles improved to 4-2 overall and 3-2 in the Big Eight. Jordan Weber scored two TDs on the ground, on runs of 44 and 42 yards, and also had 118 yards rushing on the night on eight carries. Plus, Jimmy Strock threw an 11-yard TD pass to Bryan Marrow, and Tristen Haylett had a 41-yard TD run. Bryce McCavit led Quincy in tackles with 13, while Strock and Haylett had 10 apiece. Union City fell to 2-4, 2-3.

White Pigeon 34, (at) Bronson 8: The host Vikings lost the SJV matchup, with Daniel McMichael throwing a 20-yard TD pass to Ryan Hagen. McMichael also rushed for 72 net yards. Kyle Roberts had nine tackles for Bronson, and Eric Toledo (fumble recovery) and Beau Murphy had eight apiece.

(At) Parchment 42, Maple Valley 6: The visiting Lions scored their lone TD in the second quarter on a 65-yard run by Austin Gonser in this KVA setback against Parchment (3-3, 3-3). Maple Valley (1-5, 1-5) received 126 total rushing yards from Gonser and 67 more from Ryan Mudge. Dylan Kennedy had seven tackles for the Lions.
