CARSON CITY-CRYSTAL sophomore
30 3-pointers and counting: Even though she is only halfway through her second season as a varsity girls basketball player, Duflo already holds Carson City-Crystal’s school record for 3-point field goals. She hit 51 as a freshman while helping the Eagles to an 18-5 record, its first Class C district title since 1983 and a CMAC co-championship that was CC-C’s first league title since 1984. She has hit another 30 3-pointers already in 2012-13, including five (and 21 points) during a key 57-33 victory on Friday at Blanchard Montabella that should give Carson City-Crystal a chance to tie Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart for the MSAC lead at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Duflo also hit four 3-pointers and scored 14 points in a 50-10 Eagles’ win at Farwell earlier last week.
From coach Larry Farmer: “It’s a team effort, and not one player can do it all, but she’s a really good shooter as well as a good defender who is a really hard worker and great teammate. As other teams concentrate on her, that provides opportunities and makes it easier for others on the team to shine. She’s been a real pleasure to coach, and she’s one of the better players in Class C and deserves all-state consideration.”
