LANSING CHRISTIAN senior
One of the main reasons the Pilgrims are undefeated: A year ago, the 5-foot-9 point guard earned Class D all-state special mention after averaging 14 points per game and helping Lansing Christian go 12-0 to win the SMAA, finish 22-3 and advance as far as the state quarterfinals. In her fourth year as a varsity player, she is averaging 18.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.9 steals and 3.4 assists while teaming with senior Maddie Pauley, junior Mikayla Terry and the Pilgrims to achieve a 14-0 start. She had 17 points in a 57-31 win over Laingsburg and 31 points, 8 steals and 8 assists in a 65-11 victory at Ashley last week as well as 15 points in a 58-36 win at Albion on Tuesday.
From coach Justin Terry: “She wasn’t big enough to play the forward spot, and had to refine herself to play guard. She worked with Carlton Valentine at the MAC (Michigan Athletic Club) and through weight training, diet and commitment has transformed herself into one of the top players in the state regardless of class. She’s tough to match up with, and she’s a tough defender. She’s tough as nails, and she shares the ball.”
