Prep girls basketball: Lincoln tripped up at home

The Manitowoc Lincoln girls basketball team looked like it might cruise at home early on, but Pulaski roared back and won 55-37 in the Fox River Classic Conference tilt.

The Ships came out hot, jumping out to a 10-2 behind a suffocating defense while drawing several fouls on the offensive end and converting their free throws.

Kali Hackmann took control for Lincoln (9-3, 5-3) early on, scoring eight points in the first quarter as her team led 14-10 at the end of the frame. The Ships cooled off slightly as the quarter wore on, but continued to take advantage of an aggressive Red Raiders defense.

Hackmann finished with a team-high 13 points, while teammate Alyssa Fischer added nine.

Pulaski (7-4, 4-3) took the lead early in the second quarter after a steal led to a transition bucket and turned a 7-0 run into a 17-14 advantage. The Red Raiders’ run was fueled by its turnover-forcing defense to get easy baskets.

It was the closest the Ships got the rest of the contest.

Lincoln trailed 27-19 at the end of the half, scoring all five of its second-quarter points from the free-throw line.

Fischer’s layup with five minutes to play in the third quarter was the first shot made from the field by the Ships since the first quarter.

The Red Raiders continued to make almost every shot they attempted, building a 43-24 lead with 1:24 left the third quarter. Pulaski added one more basket and led 45-26 at the end of the frame.

The Ships scored 11 in the fourth, but the game wasn’t in contention since the first quarter.
