By

The Manitowoc Lutheran girls basketball team fell 61-36 to host Algoma on Thursday after taking an early lead.

The Lancers came out firing to start, holding a 7-3 lead three minutes into the first quarter. The Wolves responded with a 14-0 run over the last five minutes of the quarter to hold a 17-7 lead after one quarter.

Arianna Neumeyer scored 13 of her team-high 16 points in the fourth to lead Lutheran.

Lutheran’s scoring drought lasted six and half minutes before Emily Unke hit a 3-pointer to snap a 15-0 Wolves run. The Lancers got within 18-12 before Algoma, the No. 1 team in Division 4, took off for another stretch and led 27-12 midway through the second quarter.

Despite showing more of an offensive presence, the Lancers trailed 33-20 at the half.

The third quarter belonged to the Wolves, as Algoma doubled up Lutheran 42-21 with just under four minutes to go in the quarter. When the horn sounded to end the frame, Lutheran faced a 53-21 deficit after the Wolves outscored the lancers 20-1 in the quarter.

Neumeyer scored the first basket for Lutheran in the second half, a 3-pointer, to end a stretch of almost 10 minutes without a field goal for the Lancers.
