If the first game of the season for both the Two Rivers and Manitowoc Lincoln girls basketball teams was any indication, each side is in for a thrilling season.
The Raiders withstood a furious fourth quarter rally by the Ships and won 70-65 in overtime.
Down nine entering the final frame, Lincoln outscored Two Rivers 20-11 in the fourth to force overtime before the Raiders took control.
The Ships held a narrow 16-15 advantage after the first quarter but were held to seven points in the second as the Raiders led 32-23 at the half.
It was the Walesh cousins who did most of the damage for Two Rivers, with Kenzie scoring a game-high 26 and Alexi poured in 18 of her own and three 3-pointers. Marissa Broehm (11) was also in double figures for the Raiders.
For Lincoln, Alyssa Fischer had a team-high 25 points and was joined in double digits by teammates Alyssa Grotegut (15) and Michaela Jagemann (11). Jagemann made a team-high three 3’s and Fischer added two.
Both teams return to action on Tuesday, with Lincoln visiting Xavier and Two Rivers traveling to take on Mishicot.
