SARTELL A goal by senior Rachael Prozinski at the 14:16 mark of the fourth overtime finally brought things to a close as No. 6 seed River Lakes defeated No. 3 seed Sartell/Sauk Rapids 2-1 in a Section 8-2A girls hockey playoff game Saturday night at Bernick’s Arena.
The game clocked in at 98 minutes and 16 seconds in all.
The Starts will now play host to No. 7 seed Moorhead, which beat No. 2 seed Roseau 2-1 Saturday, at 7 p.m. Tuesday in either Richmond or Paynesville.
“It was a long game, but when you win, you get all that energy back,” said River Lakes coach Blair Hovel, whose team had lost twice to the Stormin/ Sabres during the regular season. “We’re in the locker room celebrating right now. It’s a great feeling.”
River Lakes took a 1-0 lead on a power play goal by sophomore Allie Stangler at the 1:48 mark of the second period. But Sartell/Sauk Rapids tied the score at the 1:01 mark of the third when Sarah Kaschmitter scored short-handed.
Shana Clark recorded 48 saves in net to pick up the win. Erin Deters had 56 saves in net for the Stormin’ Sabres.
“This just feels awesome,” Hovel said. “Our girls worked hard and they deserve this.”
